Mulligang is in beta. A few bugs may still be lurking, and that's expected. If something looks off, let us know — it really helps us improve the app.

How Mulligang works

Mulligang helps a playgroup trade Magic cards with each other. Everyone lists what they own and says what they want; the app shows who has what and suggests fair trades.

The loop in 30 seconds

You add your cards to your collection. Your group mates' tradable cards show up on the trade table, where you heart the ones you want. Smart matches crosses everyone's wishlists to suggest trades that are fair on price. You send a proposal, swap the cards in real life, confirm — and both collections update on their own.

Get started

  1. Add your cards. Import a file from ManaBox, Moxfield or a plain text list, or add cards one by one. See Importing cards.
    Collection →
  2. Join your group. Paste the invite code a friend gave you, or create a group and share its link. Without a group there is nobody to trade with.
    Community →
  3. Say what's for trade. Every card starts as Maybe. Mark the ones you'd happily trade as Open and the ones you're keeping as No way.
    Collection →
  4. Heart what you want. Browse the trade table — or the whole catalog in Discover — and heart the cards you're after.
    Trade table →
  5. Open Smart matches. As soon as you and a group mate want each other's cards, a suggested trade appears, ready to send.

Collection

Everything you own. It is the source for everything else: you can only put a card in a deck or in a trade if it is in your collection.

  • One entry per copy you can tell apart. The same card in two editions, or foil and non-foil, is two entries, each with its own quantity and price. Click a card to change its quantity, edition or foil.
  • Trade status — the small icon under each card. Click it to cycle, or open the card to pick one:
    Open
You'd happily trade it. Offered first in suggestions.
    Maybe
The default. Tradable, but ask me.
    No way
Not for trade. Hidden from the trade table and from every trade.
  • Select lets you tick several cards and set their status, or add them to a deck, in one go.
  • Filters: year and edition of the copies you own, name, category, color, type, rarity, mana value, kindred (tribe), keyword, and trade status.
  • Export your collection as a text file from the ⋮ menu.

Your group mates can browse your whole collection, No way cards included. Nobody outside your groups can.

Importing cards

From the collection's ⋮ menu (or the empty collection screen), pick a file. You always get a preview first: nothing is saved until you confirm, and you can untick anything you don't want applied.

  • Accepted files: a CSV export from ManaBox or Moxfield, or a plain text list, one card per line — 2 Goblin Boarders (FDN) 87. The set code and collector number are optional, but they import the exact edition you own (right art, right price).
  • Your first import only adds cards. Nothing is ever removed.
  • Re-importing a ManaBox export works as a sync. Mulligang compares the new file with your previous one and proposes:
    New cards
Ticked — they will be added.
    Printing changes
Ticked — same card, different edition or foil in ManaBox.
    Removed from ManaBox
Unticked — tick only the copies that really left your collection.
    Already accounted for
Copies you traded away here. ManaBox doesn't know about the trade; nothing is removed twice.
  • Any other file (Moxfield, text) never removes anything; it is not treated as a sync.
  • A copy that is part of a trade in progress is never removed or changed by an import.

Discover

Every card from every Magic set. Pick a year and an edition — each one shows how much of it you own — or search the whole catalog, then filter by category, color, type, rarity, kindred or keyword.

  • Click a card to see who in your groups can trade it and to heart it. You can heart a card nobody owns yet: the wish waits until someone can trade it.
  • Categories (Ramp, Removal, Card Draw…) describe what a card does. They are assigned automatically, so the odd one may be off.
Open Discover →

Decks

Build decks from the cards you own — up to 5 decks.

  • Mine — search your collection and add a card to the maindeck (+) or the sideboard (SB). The counter shows how many copies you still have free for this deck. Basic lands are unlimited: add them with the colored buttons next to Maindeck.
  • Trade table — browse what your group can trade and pin a card as a trade target for this deck. Pinning also hearts it, and it stays hearted for as long as it is pinned.
  • Stats — format legality (Standard, Modern, Pauper, Commander, Limited), an optional budget, the deck's profile by category, its mana curve, and for each color how many colored symbols you need against how many lands produce it.
  • Mana balance — for each color, the chance of having enough sources to cast your most demanding card on curve. 90% or more is Balanced, 75% or more is Acceptable.
  • A card with a red or orange 1/2 badge is one you no longer own enough copies of — for example after a trade.
  • Export the list as a text file from the ⋮ menu.

Trade table

The cards your group mates can trade — everything they marked Open or Maybe. One tile per card, with the number of players who have it.

  • Heart a card to put it on your wishlist. That is what Smart matches works from.
  • Click a card to see who owns it, then pick a player to start a trade with that card already added.
  • Select several cards to heart them at once — or, if one player owns them all, to propose a trade for the lot.
  • My wishlist shows every card you hearted, including the ones nobody can trade right now (marked no owner yet). This is where you review and clean up your wishlist.
  • Group and Player narrow the table to one group or one person.
  • With two or more filters active, Save to Looking for turns the current filters into a Looking for entry.

My trades

Where you propose trades and follow the ones in progress. The trade table is the catalog; this page is your own transactions.

Smart matches

Trades found for you automatically, one group mate at a time: cards they own that you hearted, against cards you own that they hearted, picked so both sides are close in value. If one of you hasn't hearted anything the other owns, that side is filled from their Looking for instead.

  • Only Open and Maybe cards are suggested — never a No way.
  • Compose opens the trade pre-filled. Nothing is sent yet — add, remove or change cards first.
  • No suggestion? Heart more cards, or open more of yours for trade.

Build a trade

Pick a player, then choose cards from both collections with +. A trade needs at least one card on each side.

  • Each line is one specific copy — its edition, whether it is foil, and that copy's price. What you pick is exactly what changes hands.
  • ♥ marks a card on the other player's wishlist (or yours, on their side); ◎ marks a card matching a Looking for. Both can be used as filters.
  • The balance indicator compares the two totals: Balanced within $2 or 10%, Acceptable within $5 or 20%, Unbalanced beyond. It is a guide only — it never blocks a trade.
  • A greyed-out line is a copy already promised in another trade.

The life of a trade

  1. Sent. The other player can Accept, Refuse, or Counter-propose — which sends back a modified trade and closes the original. You can cancel while you wait.
  2. Accepted. Meet up and swap the cards. Either of you can still cancel if it falls through.
  3. Completed. One of you clicks I received the cards. That single confirmation closes the trade and moves the cards between both collections — it cannot be undone, so confirm once the cards have really changed hands.

The page sorts your trades into Received (waiting for your answer), To confirm (accepted, cards to swap), Sent and History. The number on the My trades tab counts the trades that need you.

Looking for

The wishlist says "I want this card". Looking for says "I want this kind of card" — green creatures, Vampires, cheap removal. Combine a category, a color and any other filter; add several entries for alternatives (up to 10). Your group mates see them on your group page and when they build a trade with you.

Open My trades →

Community

Your groups — the people you trade with. Everything you share is shared with your group mates only.

  • Join with an invite code or link, or accept an invitation sent to your username (it shows up on this page).
  • Create a group and you become its owner. You can own up to 3; being a member of others doesn't count.
  • A group's page lists its members, with a link to each collection and what they're looking for, and the group's recent trades. Other members' trades show the cards exchanged, never the prices.
  • Owners can invite a player by username, renew the invite code, post the group's activity to a Discord channel, and hand the group over to another member — which is also how an owner leaves without deleting the group.

Rules worth knowing

Your collection is the truth.
Decks and trades can only use cards that are in it. If a card leaves your collection, decks that used it keep it on their list and flag it as missing.
A trade is about exact copies.
You trade this edition, foil or not, at its price — not "any copy of the card".
Cards in a trade are reserved.
From the moment a trade is sent until it is completed, refused or cancelled, the copies in it can't be offered in another trade, removed from your collection, or switched to another edition or foil.
One confirmation completes a trade.
Either player can confirm, and both collections update immediately.
Cards you receive start as Maybe.
Set them to No way if you want to keep them off the table.
Prices are indicative.
They come from Scryfall, in US dollars, and are refreshed periodically. They help keep trades fair between friends; they are not a sale price. Mulligang is not a party to any trade.
Only your groups see you.
Group mates can see your collection, which of their cards you hearted, and what you're looking for. Within a group, members can see that a trade happened and which cards moved — but only the two players involved see the prices. Outside your groups, nothing is visible.
